I am sorry I did not realize that this didn't post on Friday. I truly thought it had. My apologies. Due to the fact that it didn't post like I thought it did, this ORB will be due on Friday, 1/6/12 (not Wednesday). Also, this is going to count as 2 ORB assignments. Therefore, you will only have one more assignment to complete for Hiroshima. Make sure you are keeping up on the book.
Here is the assignment:
- List five “miraculous” occurrences or bizarre coincidences that spared lives or had other freak effects during the bomb blast or soon thereafter. Describe how you would explain such incredible events, from either a religious or a scientific viewpoint. For each "miraculous" occurrence, answer with 6-7 sentences. Remember, this will count as 2 ORB grades; be thorough and insightful.
DUE DATE: Friday, January 6th
Surviving the bomb is a miraculous occurrence in and of itself. Not many people lived to tell the story of life after the bomb. However, more than survival occurred in the days, weeks, and months after the explosion.
ReplyDeleteFor starters, Father Kleinsorge is expected to die in just two short weeks while staying in a Tokyo hospital. Although his cuts reopen often and his blood cell count is moving up and down constantly, he pulls through. He recovers to regular health. After his surprising recovery, the priest is interviewed by many reporters. I would explain his recovery by scientific logic, rather than religious. I think by getting into a hospital, Kleinsorge had the upper hand while fighting the disease. Some people didn't have the opportunity to go into a hospital, but he could. Being in a clean, disease-treating environment may have helped him recover from his disease, although he may have explained it through faith.
Another strange and almost unexplainable event that occurs after the bombing is Miss Sasaki's recovery. When the bomb hit, she was crushed by bookshelves. Her leg was severely fractured and she eventually began suffering from radiation sickness. After being transferred to a hospital, Sasaki becomes depressed. Her fiancee won't visit her, however eventually Father Kleinsorge, who was already recovered, visits her. After awhile, she becomes more hopeful because of the priest. Her infection disappears and she is even able to walk on crutches. I believe the explaination for this occurrence leans more towards the religious side. Before the priests arrival by her bedside, Miss Sasaki was depressed and lonely. Afterwards, she becomes hopeful and even recovers. I think Kleinsorge has some part in that, and since he's religious, that may be why.
As chapter four of Hiroshima progresses, we begin to see the main characters rebuild their lives. Father Kleinsorge is able to commission a mission house almost identical to the one he'd lost in the bombing. It is remarkable, because all of the wreckage remains around him, but he still is able to rebuild everything he'd lost. Most people are wandering, wounded, realizing they've lost loved ones. Kleinsorge is able to use his hope in his religion to become once again successful. I'd relate this to his religion because he never gave up his hope and believed that he'd pull through.
Another main character who starts to rebuild her life is Mrs. Nakamura. After falling ill due to radiation sickness, she loses her hair. However, after regaining her composure and health, she is able to gather a bit of money. With that, she rents a small house. After she's somewhat settled, she's able to enroll her children in school. This is a great accomplishment because, as it's been known from the beginning of the story, her three children are her main priority. I'd also relate this to religion, because she is also able to keep hope. However, she also works hard to reestablish her life.
In chapter three of Hiroshima, Miss Sasaki can be found under a makeshift shelter in a courtyard. She was placed with two other injured people during the aftermath of the bombing. While waiting, she is delivered the horrible news that her mother, father, and younger brother are dead. While she may have lost much hope after hearing that news, she is able to be rescued again and brought to a hospital. In the hospitals she's transported to, she's able to be treated and see doctors. This is remarkable because many people have to go untreated although they too have serious injuries. I'd relate this to scientific logic because she was rescued by people who knew they could take her to the safety of a hospital. Science and medicine are also what saved her life.
fist off mrs.nakamura life was spared.she had a illness that caused her hair to fall out.she managed to get money for herself so she can get a house for herself.also she got her kids into school which is good.it kind of relates to religion because she kept faith and hope in herself.
ReplyDeleteanother event is when miss sasaki was in the shelter. she was with some other people after the bombing.when she was there she had news that her family died.she was so sad that she lodt hope in herself.she was able to transport to a hospital to get treatment.this is related to scientific logic because she had got help from the people.
kleinsorge was supposed to die in two weeks.he had problems with his sores opening up and his blood issue.he was fighting for his life but he pulls through.soon after his treatment he pulls through and hes healthy agian.he had many interveis by the news people.i also think this scientific logic because medicine and doctors saved his life.
when miss sasaki had her recovery was kind of uncepected.she was crushed by book shelfs.she had injuries to the leg.also she began to have affect by the radiation of the bomb.she gets depressed in the hospital.this is kind of religious because she was depressed and sad but when she recovers she has hope agian.
in chapter 4 most of the charactes began to fix themsevles back up.kleinsorge builds a commision house for people.the reckage was all around him but he insists on making another one.some of the people are wishing for religion to come up.people are wounded and they have lost there family.this relates to religion because some people had hope left in them like kleisorge.
There were several miraculous things that happened in the book Hiroshima after the bomb dropped. To me I think the biggest was Dr. Sasaki who was completely unharmed from the explosion and the blast. This was amazing because there were 90,000–166,000 people injured and killed in the blast. I think that he survived because he had ducked down behind the counter at the exact moment the shock wave hit and sent debris went flying that it was major luck of faith that one man could have been completely unharmed in a tragic event such as this. This can be shown in a scientific way as being a split second faster than the shockwave.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing was Father Kleinsorge rebuilding his mission. It was interesting to me that he could rebuild the same thing that had been destroyed when the bomb hit. This show that just because there is hardship and tragedy dose not me u have to give up faith. Some people would say that he was able to rebuild it because almost all missionaries are the same. But if I was there that day I would say it was his faith in god because he was able to rebuild something that had been destroyed forever this also reassured others of their faith as well as Father Kleinsorge.
Later on as the novel progresses Mrs. Nakamura is found becoming very ill to radiation poisoning. She is later able regain her health and finds some money. With this money she is able to put her children back into school. This to me shows how strong and good of a mother she was. This is miraculous because very few people were able to recompose themselves and move on. She moved her children on so they did not have time to really dwell on what has just happened to them but to look forward and towards hope. I interpret this as religious because religion brings people hope and her faith in herself and god lead her to put her life back together.
Mrs. Sasaki was another victim who had had something miraculous happen to her. After the bomb went off a book case fell on top of her. She started to be affected by radiation poisoning her leg was crushed by the book cases so she had nowhere to go. she is then rescued and is transferred to a hospital. There she is completely alone and dying. Then Father Kleinsorge. Comes to visit her he renews her faith and her illness is starting to get better. This can’t really be explained by science. This one can be chocked up to religion because it was the Priest who re needed her faith and the she started to get better. This is one of the most miraculous things to happen in this book.
Father Kleinsorge was expected to die in just two weeks. His cuts were reopening and his white blood cell count was going up and down. Father Kleinsorge was not expected to pull through they thought he was going to die. He miraculously pulls through after his recovery all kinds of reporters want to talk to him. If you were to ask my opinion he survived because of science because hospitals have medical technology and medication that can cure radiation poisoning and because he was away from any further radiation. But if you were to ask Father Kleinsorge he would say it was god and that god says it was not yet his time.
Dr. Terufumi Sasaki was one of the luckiest main characters in the book. Not only did he narrowly miss instant death at the center of where the bomb hit, he was also virtually unharmed after the explosion. This was probably just luck. He was simply in the right place at the right time. He bandaged up what few cuts and scrapes he did have and went on his way to help survivors in the hospital. This can probably be explained with science as he might have been in a very well protected section of the building with thick walls. there was also not much stuff falling down to injure him.
ReplyDeleteFather Kleinsorge was also very lucky to survive. He was even outside in his underwear when the bomb hit. This can also probably be explained by science. The house probably blocked the shockwave which was coming from the other side. But since he was a religious man he probably would have explained it through religion. But he was very lucky to survive what would have been fatal if he had been a little bit closer or in a different location.
Mrs. Sasaki, out of all the main character, was probably injured the most. Her leg was completely crushed by a bookshelf and she had many other injuries from falling debris. Somehow she manages to pull through. She is a lot luckier than most of the other people that were that badly injured. She wasn't lucky enough to not get her leg smashed but she was lucky enough to survive the whole thing. Im not sure whether this can be truly explained or not. But out of all the people, I guess some were bound to survive.
One bizzare occurance was when Father Kleinsorge ran into a young women who had two children Asano park. As the family started to go to the park. The mother decided to turn back for extra food and clothing. As she started to walk, her children got seperated from her while people were fleeing. The children never saw her again.
ReplyDeleteAnother coincidence was that Father Kleinsorge filled the containers a third time went to the the riverbank. There, amid the dead and dying, he saw a young women w/ a needle and thread mending her kimono, that has been slightly torn. This was happening when the bomb hit.
It's weird that she was calm during the whole thing.
The other coincidence wasthat miss sasaki was left two days and two nights under the piece of propped-up roofing. Her crushed leg and her two unpleasant comrades. Her leg was swollen and putrid. Then on August 8th some of her friends found her supposing she was dead told her her family is at the pediatric hospital. thats where the baby was a patient and said it was dead.
Chapter 3, page 56 Mr. Fukai said "i want to die w/ our country". Then he ran into some flames and never was seen again. Thats a bizzare coincidence and scary and weird. sucidie.
The last bizzare and weird coincidence was that when the bomb exploded Mr. Tanimoto saw Mrs. Kamai, (his former neighbor) w/ a baby in her arms dead. When the bomb hit, her house collasped and her baby strapped to her back. She dug a hole and the baby was getting dirt in its mouth and she put her finger in the infants mouth and toke it out but as she did, suddenly the infant died. Now everytime she saw Mr. Tanimoto Mrs. Kamai ask has he seen her husband. One time he ask that she cremate the baby, and all she did was hold the infant tighter.
There were many miraculous that happened in Hiroshima after the bomb dropped. Many people didn’t live after the bomb.
ReplyDeleteMiss Sasaki at the tin works factory, has been severely injured her leg is so badly broken below the knee that she believes it has been cut off. For a long time, she is pinned below the bookcase, barely conscious, until she is finally pulled from the wreckage and put under a makeshift shelter in the company of two severely injured people. Miss Sasaki lies abandoned and helpless for two days and two nights under her makeshift lean to in the courtyard of the tin works factory. On August 8 some friends find her and tell her that her mother, father, and baby brother are all presumed dead. Miss Sasaki will not be able to walk because she has broken her legs. She was able to recover from this event.
Father Kleinsorge is able to commission a mission house almost identical to the one he'd lost in the bombing. It is remarkable, because all of the wreckage remains around him, but he still is able to rebuild everything he'd lost. Most people are wandering, wounded, realizing they've lost loved ones. Father Kleinsorge continues to have a high fever and low blood cell count, and he is sent to a hospital in Tokyo. Kleinsorge is able to use his hope in his religion to become once again successful. I'd relate this to his religion because he never gave up his hope and believed that he'd pull through.
After falling to a bad illness, she loses her hair. Mrs. Nakamura after regaining her composure and health .She is able to gather a bit of money and she rents a small house. After she's somewhat settled, she's able to enroll her children in school. This is a great accomplishment because, as it's been known that her children is most important to her then anything. I'd also relate this to religion, because she is also able to keep hope. However, she also works hard to reestablish her life.
Miss Sasaki her fiance won't visit her, however eventually Father Kleinsorge, who was already recovered, visits her.
There are is a variety of miraculous occurrences that spared lives or had other freak effects during the bomb blast or soon thereafter.
ReplyDeleteOne event is when Mrs. Nakamura becomes ill to radiation poisoning. She later then is eligible to regain her health. At the timing her children were not in school, but with the money she got, she put them back in school. This show how courageous she was to stick through her illness and also how strong she was. This was miraculous because not many people today can fight through an illness and manage to stay strong like she did. I interpret this as religious because religion brings people hope and her faith in herself.
Another event is when Father Kleinsorge is expected to die. His blood count cells are moving up, but miraculously he pulls through. He recovers to regular health. His recovery wasn't such religious. This was miraculous because some people didn't have the opportunity to go into a hospital, but he could. Everything he experienced took nothing but hope and faith.
As the chapters in the novel go by, you can slowly see the change in characters and how they maintain and rebuild their confidence. Most people are wandering, wounded, realizing they've lost loved ones. But on the other hand, Kleinsorge is able to use his hope in his religion to become once again successful. I'd relate this to his religion because he never gave up his hope and always believed in himself.
A very ironic event that happened in the novel that I also found miraculous is when Mr. Fukai said "I want to die with our country". After saying that, he later then ran into flames and was never seen.
Lastly, was when the bomb exploded. And Mr. Tanimoto saw Mrs. Kamai, with a baby in her arms deceased. When the bomb hit, her house collasped and her baby was strapped on to her. I found this event in the novel very sad and dreadful.
My first miraculous occurrence or bizarre coincidence that spared lives or had other freak effects during the bomb blast or soon thereafter was when Father Cieslik tried so hard to contact the Kataoka children's mother. First, he learned through the police that an uncle had been to the authorities in Kure to try to find the Kataoka children. After, he heard that an older brother had been trying to find them through the post office in Ujina. Later, Father Cieslik heard that the mother was alive and was on Goto Island, off Nagasaki. And at last, by Father Cieslik daily check ups in the Ujina post office, he got in touch with the brother and returned the children to their mother. I think this incredible event is a scientific viewpoint. Because of all the research Father Cieslik did.
ReplyDeleteAnother event that was miraculous was when Mr. Tanimoto miraculously found two children in a river. Mr. Tanimoto ask some priests to help him rescue two children he had seen standing up to their shoulders in a river. A group went out and picked them up. The two girls who had lost their family were both badly burned. I would think this event as a scientific viewpoint because their burns.
Another event that is closely related to the last and a miraculous bizarre coincidence was the same day Mr. Tanimoto found the young girls in the river. It was a hot night and the younger of the two girls that the priests and Mr. Tanimoto rescued complained to Father Kleinsorge how cold she was. Father Kleinsorge would cover her with his clothing numerous times. He figured out that her and her sister had been in salt water for a couple of hours before they were rescued. And also seen that the younger sister had huge, raw flash burns on her. The salt water must of really put her in pain. But then she said she was cold again, so he wrapped her up completely. And she wouldn't stop shivering that suddenly she stop shivering and died. I would put this event under a scientific viewpoint because of her skin coming off from the bomb and it's radiation.
Another miraculous occurrence was when Mr. Tanimoto took Father Schiffer to a safer place, and while they were on their way they all heard a women's voice. They couldn't save them at the time because of their fear in Father Schiffer dying. So Mr. Tanimoto hurried and rush and put Father down and started alone toward the voices coming from the sandspit. When he got there he found about twenty men and women on the sandspit. When he drove the boat onto the bank he them to get aboard , but he realized that they were too weak to lift themselves. So he help them and took a women by her hands, but her skin pilled off in huge glovelike pieces. Mr. Tanimoto got so sickened by that he had sat down for a moment. Then help some and went back for more. It took him three trips and when he was down he finally took a break. To me this event was a scientific veiwpoint.
And my last miraculous occurrence was when Father Kleinsorge went to fetch fresh water for the wounded twice. On his way back the second time he got lost on a detour around a fallen tree, and as he looked for his way through the woods, he heard a voice ask from the underbrush. "Have you anything to drink?" Father Kleinsorge saw a uniform, thinking it was just one soldier, he move closer and found about twenty men. They all were in the same nightmarish state. Their faces were wholly burned, their eyesockets were hollow, the fluid from their melted eyes had run down their cheeks. Their mouths were mere swollen,pus-covered wounds. One said that he couldn't see, and Father Kleinsorge said cheerfully as he could, "There's a doctor at the entrance of the park. The doctor was busy, but he'll be there later to come and fix your eyes. I think this event was a scientific viewpoint.
Surviving the destructions of the boob is a very miraculous to many of the people in that time showing the occurrences or bizarre coincidences that spared lives or had other freak effects during the bomb blast or soon thereafter.
ReplyDeleteThe first miraculous that I’ve believe is very strong and brave is the part when Father kleinsorge is very ill but keeps trying to help all the people that he can even tell the one’s that he knows that no one is coming to help them keep them with the illusion that the rescue is coming on its way. The very sad area of Hiroshima is that Father Kleinsorge is very strong and brave knowing that he is feeling in a very horrible way he still help but by chapter four most of the people get better and fell better but him.
Two the second miraculous that happens in Hiroshima the very hard infection that Miss Sasaki get in chapter four and that her daughter is as ill as her but this infection get her though even known that her white blood cells are low and she is very sick she get though the infection and by chapter four her infection was gone by the month of April. That a well miraculous thing that happens even though she was very ill at the time being.
Third miraculous thing is Dr. Fujii who still knowing many medical areas he is still surprised that many of the patent were receiving the same blood cell reaction that was being given by boob in Hiroshima.
Fourth miraculous area was that Mrs. Nakamura was having trouble like very one else in chapter three but by chapter four her hair was full back after what the boob had left her with none at all to her by the chapter four she had bought a cabin in close to where her house use to stand and now she was sending her children back to school in Hiroshima. To the believement that she was very changed miraculous time.
To everyone the book of Hiroshima they are feeling better and are starting relive there life the way it is but to Father Kleinsorge who is feeling very ill now and he is starting to feel worst in the book but the great miraculous thing that is happening is that everyone in the book are starting to get more better in there life.
There were several miraculous things that happened when the bombing started. When Father Cieslik tried he learned through the police that an uncle had been to the authorities in Kure to try to find the Kataoka childrenanother event is when miss sasaki was in the shelter. she was with some other people after the bombing.when she was there she had news that her family died.she was so sad that she lodt hope in herself.she was able to transport to a hospital to get treatment.this is related to scientific logic because she had got help from the people. Some people would say that he was able to rebuild it because almost all missionaries are the same. ReplyDeleteThis phenomenal book by John Hersey has a lot of stories from people that experienced this devastating event. August 6, 1945 at exactly 8:15 an atomic Bomb was dropped on the city Of Hiroshima. This Event Shall Be remembered all throughout history and those that went through it. Because of This bomb so many people life has been changed and Many Events Took Place were it would be hard For You to Belived Someone Actually survived.
ReplyDeleteOne Event that took place was The Fact Dr.Sasaki was Unharmed. The reason He was unharmed because at the moment when the shockwaves from the bomb hit he was ducked down behind the counter. By Him doing that he didn’t get hit. This is pure faith and luck do to the fact an atomic bomb is very powerful. By him becoming unharmed he was able to help people in need fulfilling his duties. In a way it seems like faith wanted him to be unharmed so he can help those after all that has happened.
Another event that took place was Father Kelinsorge was him rebuilding his mission, Helping other in need when he was ill himself. It’s Hard to imagine someone being ill and still pushing through to help people and give them faith. After sometimes he was ill because his wounds kept reopening and his blood cell count is low. He Recovers do to the hospital and their work done in Tokyo. After All this he rebuilds A Mission Just Like he had before. This All is Scientific through him getting better. Faith pays a role because no matter what was happening he kept his faith and hope to the very end.
Mrs.Nakamura is the widow of a Tailor, with three kids. Her life was a struggle do to the fact she was a single parent. Her being there for her kids is the main thing. Later on within the novel she is diagnose with radiation illness. She regains her health and receives some money. That Money She received was use to start life up again ad help her kids get into school. Through this event I believe it was faith because her kids didn’t lose another parent. Also having something to fight for is what kept everything sane.
The most amazing event of all happened with Mrs.Sasaki. When the bomb hit a book case fell on her legs. This enabled her Mobility and any other chance of her getting away. While laying there under the book case she began getting radiation poisoning. Then she gets rescued and brought to the hospital. Basically lying on her death bed Father Kelinsorge came and help renew her faith giving hope. By him doing this something amazing happened, She Got better. This could be another thing based on faith and science. They say she was in a hospital and he basically prayed so with help from science and faith she began rebuilding help
Another event could just be the fact of the bomb drop itself and hurting people. It Amazing to see that these people could still fight to live another day and say they survived the matter of a horrific event.
The first miraculous event in all would have to be lucky enough to be included in the group that did survive the bomb, because there were very few survivors while thousands of people were killed. I think this is out of luck. Not science, nor religion.
ReplyDeleteOne of the lucky few, Father Kleinsorge recovered to good health after expecting to die in just two weeks. I would honestly say, that this is one of the most surprising, uplifting stories I’ve ever heard. A strong believer in faith would think this had a lot to do with religion. I do agree to an extent, but I also think this can be scientifically explained. The Priest was able to get to a hospital, while most couldn’t and being in an environment with trained professionals to help treat the disease, it’s more expected that he would survive. But the ability he had to pull through, experiencing the disease at his worse, when his blood count was unsteady and his cuts reopen could be explained more religiously.
Ms. Sasaki was another survivor with a miraculous recovery. During the bomb, she was crushed by bookshelves. She also suffered from effects of the bomb’s radiation. After getting the news that her family died in the shelter, she became extremely depressed. She lost all hope, but being that she gained her hope and faith back, this can be religiously related. Most of the time, family losses are hard to get over and it may take a while to recover from losing someone who you were close with and/or loved. When patients are in recovery, a lot of the time it’s harder on their body when they are stressed because of depression or other problems. So being that she did manage to get better, had to be related to religious views.
Mrs. Nakamura’s recovery also related to a religious viewpoint. She suffered from radiation poisoning but later is well and able to regain her health again. From money she received, she was able to put her kids back in school who were currently not attending. In modern times, not a lot of people can fight through illnesses; this is why I would say Nakamura’s recovery was so miraculous. She shows courage, and with her courageous attitude she was rewarded with the eligibility to return her body into well-being.
ReplyDeleteAnother event was when Mr. Tanimoto found the young girls in the river. It was a very hot night, and it was weird that the youngest girl was complaining to Kleinsorge about being cold. He did try to keep her warm by covering her up with more clothing. He also found that she had been hurt with raw flash burns on her skin. He came to find that her and her sisters had been in saltwater hours before they had been rescued. The youngest girl would not get warm, and continued to shiver until she just shivered into her death. This was miraculous because since she was rescued, you would have expected her to survive, and when she dies it was real sad and scary. I’m unsure of what to consider this situation as but maybe more scientific because the bomb slowly deteriorated her body and killed her. In my opinion, this had to be the strongest and most heartfelt event because it was totally unexpected.
Finally, a moving and inspiring event when Father Kleinsorge rebuilds the mission. This was a very strong and persevering move. In modern times, it is seldom to meet people who still cares to do more for others than themselves rather than prioritizing their health, when they are ill themselves. This was definitely very easy to explain through a religious viewpoint because true religious people often have a very giving, considerate heart. You could consider this event an example of Karma. Tons of religions stress this theory, believing that what you do, rather good or bad will always come back around. What Kleinsorge was doing was a very positive thing, and in return, he returned to good health.
In conclusion, the atomic bomb had been one of the most horrific times in history. Millions of people died, and suffered from the bombing and tons of people were affected. Many lives were changed and impacted on August 6, 1945, the day the bomb hit. The stories of these survivors are very touching and heartfelt, most related to religion. But through reading the novel thus far, I like many others, have learned to have a sense of gratefulness for what I have and take for granted.
In The book by John Hersey has a lot of stories from people that experienced this devastating event. An atomic Bomb was dropped on the city Of Hiroshima. This Event Will Be remembered all throughout history and The Was So devastating to the point where the stories were horrific.
ReplyDeleteOne Event that took place was Father Kelinsorge was him Helping other in need when he was ill himself. It’s Hard to imagine someone being ill and still trying to help people. After sometimes he was ill because his wounds kept reopening and his blood cell count is low. He Recovers do to the hospital and their work done in Tokyo. This could go through faith and religion since his occupation is based on god and stuff.Another event that took place was the fact Dr.Sasaki was unharmed. He was unharmed because at the moment when the shockwaves from the bomb hit he was behind the counter. By Him being in such a position this is considered faith and luck do to the impact of the bomb. By him becoming unharmed he was able to help people in need. His job is a doctor and he still continued doing it before and after. In a way it seems like faith wanted him to be unharmed so he can help. Mrs.Sasaki. -When the bomb hit a book case fell on her legs. This enabled her to move she was trapped. She couldn’t go anywhere. Then she was rescued and taken to the hospital. Father Kelinsorge came and help restore her faith and hope. She recovered and got better. This could be a faith thing because the priest thing came and pray. Mrs.Nakamura is a widow of a Tailor, with three kids. Her being there is amazing because she really had to be strong. For a single mom she’s strong she got ill with a radiation thing. She got through it and she is in good health. She got money for herself and got an apartment and put her kids in school. It’s something like faith because she survived so she can continue providing for her kids
After the bomb went off, many people were left dead or badly injured.
ReplyDeleteAn event that didn’t spare a life but had a freakish effect on characters in the book was when Father Kleinsorge rescued the 2 girls. Although, it was unbearably hot because of the fires, 1 of the girls kept saying she was cold. They were sitting in a salt water river for a while before being rescued and one of the sisters had terrible burns on her. When they were rescued, one of the girls kept saying she was cold, so father Kleinsorge gave her his jacket. After getting his jacket, the girl still complained about being cold so father Kleinsorge burrowed her in a blanket. Yet again, she complained of being cold. Soon after the last time she complained, she stopped shivering and died. I have no idea how to explain this religiously so I’ll explain it with scientific logic. I think because the girl had been sitting in a salt water river for so long and having those raw burns, the salt began to eat away at her skin and get underneath it into her body drying out her insides. This could have very well made her weak and her body temperature decrease making her cold. Her death, in my opinion was inevitable but the simple fact the Father Kleinsorge rescued jus before she died is beyond my understanding.
An event that spared a life was when Miss Sasaki went to the relief station and the doctors said that she would have to get her leg amputated or she would die because of the gas in her leg. After hearing the horrible news, she was transported to an Army hospital to get her leg cut off because the relief station didn’t have the equipment. The doctors at the hospital said she didn’t have gas in her leg and the hospital was only for surgical purposes so they couldn’t do anything for her. Soon after they told her that, she fainted and when she came to a doctor took her temperature and said that she ha to stay. I find this very interesting because if the doctor never took her temperature she wouldn’t have lived to tell her story.(1 and 2)
The stories on which this novela was made from are horrific in its self. The situations for all the characters are horrible but they all have away of working itself out of the situation.
ReplyDeleteFather Kleinsorge was a survivor. He was lucky to survive the bomb hit because of how the house collasped.Father Kleinsorge was a religious person so he may think he survived because of god.Father Kleinsorge was suppose to die but he didnt. His wounds kepted reopening and he continued to lose blood. He over came this challenge because of scientific reasons the hospital.
Other event was with Mrs.Makamura.Mrs.Makakura was able to save her and the children. She has the strength to pull her kids out of the rubbish after the bomb. She and children have come from being sick to the kids being in school. Mrs.Makamura started puting her life back together.
Mr.Tanimoto after the bombing made way to take father Schiffer on a stretcher. He helped two children up to their shoulders in the river. He found 20 men and women and help them over to the sandpit. He had to lift living bodies up the slopes. He was sickened when he sat down. But he continue to help and rescused people.
Another event that had freakish effects was when Mrs. Kamai told Mr. Tanimoto about how her baby died. She said when the bomb exploded, it buried them underneath their house. She saw that her baby was choking and could hardly breath, her mouth full of dirt. So she dug her finger the baby’s mouth to get the dirt out. At first, she was successful, the baby was breathing fine and then all of a sudden she died. I thought this was very sad. I have no way to explain why this happened, religiously nor scientifically.
ReplyDeleteOne more event that had freakish effects was how John Hersey described the after effects of the bombings. He stated that it rained constantly and heavily. The river had risen. He also talked about how on 9-17 a cloud had burst and then came a typhoon. This caused the water to get higher and higher. The flood took place of where the bomb had hit. It swept away bridges, undermined foundations of buildings and swept away streets. When the bomb hit it left a lot of acid, radiation and toxins in the air. Usually after something happens that leaves acid or dirt behind, it rains…heavily. This is how I would explain this event scientifically.(3 and 4)
As you can see, the bombing in Hiroshima caused many freakish and “miraculous” occurrences.
I Think Anyone who survived the bomb in itself is a miraculous event. Many people suffered from burns that disabled them so badly that i cant imagine how they looked in my mind.
ReplyDeleteOne of the main characters I think was both a religious and scientific occurrence was Ms. Nakamura she suffered no cuts or burns. Her children were also spared from this. in the following weeks she did loose her hair and was feeling nauseated, but she was able to get her health back and start her life over again with her children.
Miss Sasaki showed that her belief in religious healed her better than any medicine or doctor could have done. She layed up for weeks in a shaft with two severely injured people, no food or water. It was weeks before she got help.she was sent to numerous hospitals. Her health was aling. when Father Kleinsorge started to visit her, she started to get better and live her life again.
I think Father Klein. even though he was injured himself, must have had help from above to get him through this. He never stopped helping others. When he finaly got help for himself, he was able to continue his work. He rebuilt his church and started his life and help others to recover as he has.
The stories on which this novela was made from are horrific in its self. The situations are all different but they are trying to live through them.

Father Kleinsorge was a survivor. He was lucky to survive the bomb hit because of how the house collasped.
Dr.Sasaki was not hurt in the bomb.He was not harmed because he was able to take cover behind the counter. He was able to help other in need because he was not wounded. It was luck that he didnt get hit in the bomb
Mrs.Sasaki was harmed during the bomb. The bookshelf fell on her legs. She was not able to move. She couldnt escape to get rescused. She was found and brought to the hospital.
In the book john Hersey gave examples of many events. This was a very bad time because the atomic bomb was horrible. Dr.Sasaki can be considered a blessed person because he wasn’t hurt by the bomb. He was saved do to the fact he was behind that desk thing. This could be fate acting because he survived and he lived a good life and was a good man. Mrs.Nakamura and her situation when she got ill was crucial because she has kids to support and stuff. But she got better and had money to get an apartment and put her kids in school. Mrs.Sasaki was also a victim. A Bookcase fell on her legs which caused her to not be able to move. She ended up getting radiation poison. She got rescued and was brought to a hospital . There she spoke to Father Kelinsorge and he built her keep faith. The Father himself kept faith the whole time. He got injured do to the bomb. Hi s cuts kept reopening and he had low blood cell count .Even through this he helped other through it to. With his illness he got taken to a hospital in Tokyo were they treated him. This could be a scientific because the medicine helped him. The Atomic bomb was the main event that led to this bad thing happening. This was a scientific thing that occurred.
ReplyDeleteA lot of dramatic stuff happened but those enduring it could be the biggest event of them all. They survived and making life the best as possible
In the book “Hiroshima” by John Hersey there were many life changing events that happen. Many people endured different things and events that changed them forever.
ReplyDeleteThe major event that happened was the fact the atomic bomb hit Hiroshima. This was a big advance change in technology. The fact this was created to hurt people is devastating. It caused many deaths and injuries to those that lived where or nearby to the bomb drop site. The aftermath of the bomb destroyed and radiated everything in its path of destruction. People were very lucky to survive. This was a scientific reasoning because Man or the science man created caused this.
One event that took place was Mr. Sasaki and how he survived. This was a miraculous event because it was rare people survived and didn’t have some kind of radiation poisoning. The thing that saved him was the fact he was ducked down behind a counter when the shock wave hit. This was fate acting in his favor allowing him to be safe
Another event that took a victim was Mrs. Sasaki and the book case falling on her. The Shock wave Knoked the book case over and it landed on her legs. This Caused her to lose her leg mobility. She began getting radiation poisoning from it. After awhile she gets rescused and brought to the hospital. this could be fate because she was found and was able to get rescued
Also with Mrs.Sasaki event that took place Father Kelinsorge coming to see Mrs.Sasaki in the hospital. He was there to help her keep hope and restore her faith. This could be a Faith playing a part because Father Kelinsorge was a priest. Her getting better after he came to visit andcould have helped.
Father Kelinsorge faced problems as well. He went through the most I think in a way. He had low blood cell count and he had cuts that kept reopening. Even though he was injured he still went around trying to help store faith in people even though it was a slim chance of being rescued. This was faith playing a part because He was a priest and he kept his faith alive when all hope was gone.
Mrs.Nakamura ended up getting radiation poisoning from the bomb. This caused her to be very ill. She recovered and this could be science that helped do to treatments and medicine given in the hospital .Soon after she got better she got some money and bought a place and put her kids in school.
These events took place but all through it all they survived. That was the main point. They lived to tell their story and now the world knows how effective Atomic Bombs are.
The novel Hiroshima there were many events that happened that were miraculous.
ReplyDeleteOne event is when Father Schiffer was still bleeding and terribly pale when Father Kliensorge came back after fighting the fire. Father Schiffer said that “it was as if I was already dead.” Father Kliensorge had Dr. Kanda was in the crowd and tried to help. He said he couldn’t do anything. So he put bandages around his head and put him on a hill and had his head high. The bleeding diminished. Then when he went to the hospital lost conciousness , came back and committed. But stayed alive.I belive this Is scientific because he was helped by doctors and people.
When Fukai was in the mission house toward the explosion looking through the window weeping. He wanted to stay there and die. Father Kliensorge didn’t listen to him and dragged him out of there. Then a student came up and helped him carry him out. Mr Fukai couldn’t walk and didn’t want to go. Father Kliensorge pickabacked him and tried to take him to the “safe area”, but e was weakened from diarrhea that he had. So he dropped Mr. Fukai and he ran back toward the fire. This had an effect on the others because he was close to them. I believe this is a scientific because religion had nothing to do with this and Mr. Fukai made his own decisions.
Father Kliensorge was aspected to only live 2 weeks while he was in the hospital. Blood count going up and down constantly, cuts reopening all the time, but he recovered. I think this is religious because he was recovered by faith. He wasn’t expeved to live and he surprisingly lived.
Ms. Sasaki recovery. She was crushed under bookshelves. Her leg were fractured severly. While she was in the hospital she was depressed because her soon o be husband did not come, But when she got visitor she got hope again. Shes not sick anymore and shes on crutches. I believe this is religious because as soon as she began to be hopeful she gotten well.
Last one is when Dr. Sasaki was in the hospital when the bomb hit. All the other doctors died but he was not touched. Rest of the people were either dead or patients screaming. I think his is religious explanation because god had to be with him for him not to get hurt and everyone else is.
Those are the 5 interesting events that happened and the explanation for why it happened.
Many things happened after the bomb dropped . Many people lived after the bomb , but later on died for some sort of sickness involved with its radiation .
ReplyDeleteFather Kleinsorge was in a hospital in Tokyo . They really didn’t think he was going to survive with the way his body was trying to heal itself . His cell count was fluctuating , his cuts weren’t healing correctly . But he pulled through , like he had something to live for . His recovery wasn’t really religious , more like scientific . He could have prayed a lot , which im sure he did , but he had the upper hand by being in the hospital , getting treated .
Mrs. Nakamura was poisoned with radiation . With her being sick , her children weren’t in school . Later on she was back to her healthy self , and with some of the money she got , she put her children back into school . She must have been really religiously strong to help herself get through this attack on her body . She most likely prayed a lot , and believed that she would get better for her children .
I think the most miraculous thing that happened in this book was with Mrs. Sasaki . Her legs were almost crushed by a bookcase that fell on her . She was stuck under the case , and began to get radiation poisoning . Surprisingly , she was rescued , and taken to a hospital . Father Kleinsorge came to visit her . He helped her believe in her faith more , and gain a little more hope . After a while , she started to get better .
Later on in chapter 4 , all the characters began to rebuild their lives . People use their religion , to gain hope after everything they’ve been through . Father Kleinsorge not only helped other people , he began to build back up everything he’s lost .
People still wandered the streets , realizing that they’ve lost almost everything that they’ve worked for . They have no homes , no family . People are trying to recover from everything still .
When Father Kleinsorge is in his room and his goes to gather his belongings and his room is completely destroyed but his papier-mâché suitcase is still standing not scratched or even moved from the door way. Father Kleinsorge believes that this is an act of God that saves his suitcase from the explosion. When both Dr. Sasaki and Dr. Fujii survive the blast and the whole entire clinic collapses around them. This killed four nurses and the only 2 patients that Dr. Fujji had. When the fire starts to spread throughout the clinic now ruble Dr. Sasaki and many others take cover in the river. Another one is when 10,000 people showed up at the hospital and Dr. Sasaki not even wearing his own glasses frantically tries to help everybody that he can. Dr. Fujii made his way to his parent’s house and alerted them of his survival. He pondered the thought of what could have caused so much destruction. Another thing is when Asano Park survives the explosion with minor damage taken at all. The citizens of Hiroshima take refuge in the park as many around them lay and suffer in silence. When the fire starts to threaten the park Father Kleinsorge and Mr. Tanimoto along with other volunteers use buckets of water and clothes to put out the fire. Mr. Tanimoto then takes a boat around and picks up people laying on the side of the river and brings them to the park. The wind starts to pick up which starts expelling the fire from the city but as the rain starts the wind picks up knocking over trees and other items. I think this would be Gods way of not stepping in and effecting the free will of the people but helping them in their time of need. On the night of August 6th, Priest from the Novitiate a mission that is three miles away arrives at the park with stretchers for Father LaSalle and Father Schiffer. I think this is the a way of God showing the Priest that they have done their job and all that is left for them is to recover from the horrific event.
ReplyDeletekleinsorge was supposed to die in two weeks.he had problems with his sores opening up and his blood issue. soon after his treatment he pulls through and hes healthy agian. i also think this scientific logic because medicine and doctors saved his life. when miss sasaki had her recovery was kind of uncepected.she was crushed by book shelfs.also she began to have affect by the radiation of the bomb.she gets depressed in the hospital.this is kind of religious because she was depressed and sad but when she recovers she has hope agian.Mrs.Sasaki was also a victim. A Bookcase fell on her legs which caused her to not be able to move. She ended up getting radiation poison. She got rescued and was brought to a hospital . I think Father Klein. even though he was injured himself, must have had help from above to get him through this. He never stopped helping others. When he finaly got help for himself, he was able to continue his work. He rebuilt his church and started his life and help others to recover as he has. As one can see these are five meracolous events in this book.
ReplyDeleteThere are many events that took place in the book. The atomic Bombing was The main cuase of everything. A character name father Kelinsorge was a brave helpful guy during the time of being ill. He was suffering from blood spills and his wounds reopening. Kelinsorge helped many hurt and needed people. This is an image i cant even imagine, in my opinion if i was ill i wouldnt have the strength to carry other people to a safer side. It was Faith that brought him to do what was right.
ReplyDeleteMrs Sasaki was an survivor that experienced a miraculous event. During the time of the bombing selves Fell upon her due to the vibration of the hit, She was hurt badly and she suffered from the radiation. This didnt stop her From geting up and helping herself.
This could have been her fate, because after the hit of the book shelves, she ducked and hidden herself in a place where she was able to get rescued, but after that she was continued to be sent to numerous hospitals. In the hospitals they lacked on food and it was a rush hour stay during this horrible time, where many people from the town was injured and sick. Also her husband mr.Sasaki, he was also injured due to the bombing but it was rare to know that he wasnt atrucked by the radiation, and it was a miraculous event because he survived with any major problems.
